After checking out the Christmas in Ice event, B & I made our way down the road to our favorite Chena State Park lake to do some snow shoeing. Now, it was cold. B reminded me that even kindergarteners here go out for recess when it’s -20. It’s true. I had no rebuttal, if a kindergartener could do it, so could I!
Much to my delight, on our way in we passed a Moose! My delight because we didn’t happen upon it on the trail (they apparently aren’t as friendly as one would want them to be) but even moreso because I love seeing Moose!
We then hit the trails, bundled up so that I couldn’t imagine putting another layer on me. Once we got going, it was beautiful and warm enough under the layers…
Of course, my eye lashes were frozen, as was Bs beard — but that’s OK?
I turned down Bs challenge to make a snow angel — but when I countered, he accepted! Turned out the hardest part was getting up without ruining the snow angel while wearing snow shoes.
…when we got back to the car I discovered that indeed I had exceeded the expectations of a kindergarteners recess; it was -26! (to which B replied, ‘only by six degrees’)
& Just when you’d think it couldn’t get any better than the surprise fireworks that greeted us when we left our chinese food stop in North Pole….later that evening some northern lights capped it off!
