Chena River goes through the heart of Fairbanks, and when we were here earlier in the summer you would see folks just floating it. In boats, in home made rafts, in tubes. The current is strong enough that you glide right on down, and I imagine, have someone pick you up when you decide to disembark.
We’ve gone kayaking several times up and down this river. The first time the wind was blowing strongly enough upstream that we were able to paddle both directions well enough. Our later upstream paddles proved a bit more difficult…so perhaps someday we’ll employ that trick of depositing one car far downstream so we can just float!
In any case, we bore witness to beautiful waters, the interesting landscape of nature and human, and once even a helicopter landing!
